Rosewood Bangkok opened on 31 March 2019 on Ploenchit Road with 159 guestrooms, and the building is worth looking up at before you walk in. Kohn Pedersen Fox drew the tower as two slender masses leaning toward each other — the form is taken from the wai, the Thai greeting of palms pressed together — so the silhouette changes completely depending on which end of Ploenchit you see it from.
Inside, Rosewood works to what the group calls A Sense of Place: the idea that a hotel should be unmistakably of the city it stands in rather than interchangeable. Here that means Thai materials and commissioned work through the public rooms, four restaurants and lounges, an indoor-outdoor pool, and Sense, the group's spa.
At 159 rooms it is small for a tower of this height, which is the point — the hotel reads as residential rather than corporate, and the upper floors are given over to suites.
The address is the middle of the Ploenchit retail run. Central Embassy and Central Chidlom are a few minutes' walk, BTS Phloen Chit and BTS Chit Lom are either side, the Ratchaprasong skywalk reaches Gaysorn and CentralWorld without crossing a road, and Lumphini Park is a short ride south.
