The Okura Prestige Bangkok opened on 14 May 2012 at the corner of Ploenchit and Wireless Road, occupying the lowest three floors and the top twelve of Park Ventures Ecoplex — a tower built to green-building standards that was unusual for Bangkok at the time. The arrangement gives the hotel 240 rooms, all of them high above the street, and a lobby that starts on the twenty-fourth floor rather than the ground.
It is the Japanese hotel in Bangkok, and it behaves like one. Okura brought its house style intact: the lattice screens and the paper-lantern lighting of the original Tokyo hotel, precise service without ceremony, and a level of quiet that is genuinely difficult to achieve at this intersection. The cantilevered infinity pool on the twenty-fifth floor looks straight down Wireless Road, and Elements, the hotel's French-Japanese restaurant, has held a Michelin star.
The location is as connected as Bangkok allows. Park Ventures links directly into BTS Phloen Chit, which puts Ratchaprasong one stop west and Asok three stops east, and Wireless Road runs south from the door past the embassies toward Lumphini Park. Central Embassy and Central Chidlom are a five-minute walk.
