The round around
Sukhumvit.
MRT Sukhumvit sits in Sukhumvit–Asok–Nana, the area we work around Terminal 21, the Asok interchange and lower Sukhumvit. The subway keeps its schedule in any weather, which is the half of the year that matters here.
Most of the collections here are on Asok Montri Road, Soi Sukhumvit 23, Soi Sukhumvit 31. The mix is 27 hotels, 21 condominiums, 7 hostels, which is why the handoff differs from building to building — a hotel has a concierge, a condo has a lobby counter, and a serviced apartment usually has both.
MRT Sukhumvit is the subway half of the Asok interchange, and the addresses that belong to it are a different set from the ones that belong to the Skytrain — mostly the odd-numbered sois running north, 23 and 31, where the buildings are older and quieter and the mix tilts from hotels towards condominiums.
Those sois are worth knowing about. Soi 23 has the restaurants and bars that people walk to from Asok without wanting to be in the middle of it. Soi 31 is residential, tree-lined and almost silent by Bangkok standards, which is why long-stay guests keep choosing it.
From the platform the Blue Line runs south to Queen Sirikit, Lumphini and Silom, and north to Phetchaburi for the Airport Rail Link. Twenty-six of the 55 addresses here are inside 300 metres, so this is a compact round rather than a spread-out one.
