Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong opened in 2010 as Marriott's second Renaissance in Thailand, a 333-room design hotel on the Ratchaprasong corner. The approach is deliberately theatrical: a two-hundred-metre landscaped driveway pulls you off Ratchadamri Road and delivers you at a blue-glass block that is hard to mistake for anything else on the intersection.
Inside, the design leans on Thai material rather than Thai motif. Rooms carry silk headboard patterns and commissioned artwork, white oak floors, marble entries and blonde tanganyika wood, with oversized windows facing either the Ratchaprasong crossing or the quieter side toward Lumphini. Bathrooms have a separate soaking tub and rain shower. There are four restaurants, eleven meeting rooms and a Quan spa.
The location is the busiest retail crossroads in Bangkok, and the hotel is placed to use it. BTS Chit Lom is a short walk, CentralWorld is directly opposite, Gaysorn Village and Gaysorn Amarin are on the corners either side, and the Erawan Shrine is a few minutes away. Central Chidlom and Central Embassy are within the skywalk network, so a guest can shop the length of Ploenchit without crossing a road.
It suits travellers who want to be in the middle of everything and treat the hotel as a base rather than a retreat.
