Waldorf Astoria Bangkok opened in 2018 with 171 rooms, and it does not occupy a building of its own. It sits on levels 6 to 16 and again on 55 to 57 of Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, the sixty-storey tower on Ratchadamri Road — owned by MQDC and managed by Hilton, with interiors by André Fu and the New York studio AvroKO working from the original Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan.
That split is what makes the hotel unusual. The lower floors hold the rooms and the arrival sequence; the top three hold the restaurants, so dinner involves a lift ride and a view. Bull & Bear on the 55th floor takes its name from the New York Stock Exchange and cooks grilled meat and seafood on a custom grill built for smoking and slow-roasting. Peacock Alley does the afternoon tea that the brand has served since 1893 in New York, and Front Room handles contemporary Thai.
Ratchadamri outside is the ceremonial spine of central Bangkok: the Royal Bangkok Sports Club racecourse across the road, Ratchaprasong and CentralWorld a few minutes north, BTS Ratchadamri at the door and Lumphini Park a short walk south.
