Park View Mansion stands on Soi Sarasin 2, a short lane off Sarasin Road, and the name is not marketing: the building looks over Lumphini Park, which begins on the far side of Sarasin. That is the whole argument for the address. Lumphini is 140 rai of lake, lawn, banyan trees and monitor lizards in the middle of the city, and living on its northern edge means the first thing outside the window is green rather than concrete.
Sarasin Road itself is one of the more characterful streets in central Bangkok — a run of old shophouses holding restaurants and jazz bars that have been there for decades, busiest late in the evening. It is a five-minute walk from the Ratchaprasong malls and feels like a different district.
The immediate neighbours are the small residential cluster behind the Royal Bangkok Sports Club: 185 Rajadamri and Roompini within a hundred metres, Baan Ratchadamri just beyond. BTS Ratchadamri is about 500 metres away, and fourteen other addresses on our daily round sit within a 500-metre walk.
People staying here are usually in Bangkok for a stretch rather than a weekend — a posting, a long project, a family visit — in an apartment with a kitchen and a park for a garden.
