InterContinental Bangkok sits on Ploenchit Road above the Chidlom BTS station, and it has been a hotel under three names. It traded as Le Royal Meridien Bangkok until July 2003, when InterContinental Hotels Group took over management from the Srivikorn and Charoen-rajapark family group and rebranded the 381-room tower. Its sister building next door, Le Meridien President, was renovated for around thirteen million dollars and reopened as Holiday Inn Bangkok in early 2005 — which is why the two hotels still share a plot, a driveway and a history.
The address is the practical argument for staying here. BTS Chit Lom is at the door, Central Chidlom is attached by walkway, and Central Embassy, Gaysorn, CentralWorld and the Erawan Shrine are all inside a ten-minute walk on the elevated skywalk without crossing a road. For a first visit to Bangkok, being able to reach that much on foot, above the traffic, changes how the city feels.
The hotel keeps a large pool deck on the podium roof and a lobby lounge that has been a meeting point in this part of town for decades. Rooms look either down Ploenchit toward Wireless Road or north across Ratchaprasong.
Staying here, you can have laundry collected and returned without leaving the building.
