Baan Ratchadamri is a low-rise residential building at the quiet end of Ratchadamri Road, where the street runs down toward Sarasin and the Royal Bangkok Sports Club. Baan simply means house in Thai, and the name suits the scale: this is the older, smaller kind of Bangkok apartment building, the sort that predates the towers and still has trees around it.
It shares its corner with 185 Rajadamri and Park View Mansion, both around fifty metres away, and Roompini just beyond — a cluster of residential addresses tucked behind the racecourse, insulated from the Ratchaprasong traffic by a few hundred metres and a golf course. BTS Ratchadamri is about 500 metres north.
For a visitor this is a different Bangkok from the one in the brochures. Sarasin Road at the end of the block is known for its old shophouse restaurants and late-night jazz bars, Lumphini Park is directly across it, and Langsuan with its cafes and small restaurants runs parallel one street east. The malls are ten minutes' walk when you want them and completely out of earshot when you do not. Ten other addresses on our round sit within 500 metres, which is about as residential as this district gets.
Guests and residents at Baan Ratchadamri can use GO Laundry PX's laundry delivery service from the building. We collect at the door or from you, wash each order on its own rather than in a shared load, and bring it back to the same address — folded flat the KonMari way for a suitcase, or pressed and returned on hangers for the week.
