Le Méridien Bangkok opened on 19 December 2008 at 40/5 Surawong Road in Bang Rak, with 282 rooms. It is a straightforward, well-run city hotel in a spot that does more work than the building does: Surawong runs parallel to Silom, one street north, in the middle of the business district.
The hotel keeps Bamboo Chic as its bar and restaurant, a pool deck on the podium, and rooms with floor-to-ceiling glass looking either over Silom toward Sathon or north across the old Bang Rak street grid.
What guests are actually buying is the position. BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Si Lom are a few minutes' walk, which puts Siam three stops one way and Sukhumvit a short ride the other. Patpong's night market is immediately behind the hotel, Silom's food stalls run the length of the road, Lumphini Park is at the eastern end, and the Chao Phraya and BTS Saphan Taksin are ten minutes west. For a first visit to Bangkok, very little else is this well connected at this price.
Guests here are a mix of business travellers on multi-day trips and holidaymakers using Silom as a base, both of which are stays long enough for laundry to matter.
