WHAT THIS STOP IS LIKE

The round around
Victory Monument.

BTS Victory Monument sits in Siam–Pratunam–Ratchathewi, the area we work around Siam Paragon, Pratunam market and the Ratchathewi interchange. The Skytrain runs above the traffic, so a pickup window holds whatever the road below is doing.

Most of the collections here are on Ratchawithi Road, Phaya Thai Road, Soi Ratchawithi 3. The mix is 4 hotels, 4 condominiums, 3 hostels, which is why the handoff differs from building to building — a hotel has a concierge, a condo has a lobby counter, and a serviced apartment usually has both.

Victory Monument is a roundabout more than a neighbourhood — a huge traffic circle with the obelisk in the middle and minivan ranks radiating off it to every province within a few hours of Bangkok.

The round here is small and unusually mixed: only fifteen addresses, and three of them are hospitals or clinics rather than places to stay. That is the character of the district. Ratchawithi Road running west is one of Bangkok's medical corridors, with Rajavithi Hospital, the Children's Hospital and Phramongkutklao all within a short ride.

The food under the expressway and around the boat noodle alley on the north side is some of the best cheap eating in the city. Six addresses sit inside 300 metres. Guests on this round are often here for a hospital rather than a holiday, staying longer than they planned.
