The St. Regis Bangkok opened on 1 April 2011, the first St. Regis in Southeast Asia, and it rises forty-seven storeys above Rajadamri Road. That height matters here more than it would elsewhere in the city, because of what it looks out over.
Directly opposite is the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, founded in 1901, whose racecourse and golf course occupy a vast green rectangle in the middle of central Bangkok. From the upper floors the view is an unbroken sweep of turf with the towers of Silom behind it — a piece of open sky that almost no other hotel in the district can offer, because almost nothing else faces it. Lumphini Park lies just beyond, so the green continues.
The hotel keeps the St. Regis rituals: the butler service that came from the original New York house, the evening champagne sabrage, and a bar that serves its own local variation on the Bloody Mary. BTS Ratchadamri connects to the building directly, which puts the Ratchaprasong shopping run, Siam and Sukhumvit within a few stops.
It suits the traveller who wants the centre of Bangkok without the noise of it — a quiet stretch of Ratchadamri with the racecourse for a front garden, five minutes from everything and insulated from all of it.
