Mahatlek Luang is a genuinely quiet address — a residential pocket of low-rise apartment buildings and old trees, hemmed in by the Royal Bangkok Sports Club on one side and Ratchadamri on the other, which is why so little traffic uses it.
The neighbours tell you the standard of the block. The St. Regis Bangkok, Hansar Bangkok and Dusit Suites Ratchadamri are all within about a hundred metres, and BTS Ratchadamri is roughly 150 metres from the door, which is close enough that the station is genuinely part of the building's daily life rather than a walk you plan for.
For a visitor, the appeal of a serviced residence on this soi is that you get a kitchen and a sitting room in a district where hotels charge by the night for neither, and you are still inside the Ratchaprasong walking circle. The racecourse and golf course of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club give the neighbourhood an unusual amount of open sky for central Bangkok, and Lumphini Park is a short ride south.
