Arnoma Grand Bangkok was built in 1988 at 99 Ratchadamri Road, eighteen floors and 369 rooms, and it holds an unusual position at the Ratchaprasong crossing: it is the only independent hotel left standing among the international chains that surround it. Everything else on this intersection carries a global flag. Arnoma does not, and it has been renovated rather than rebranded — a refurbishment in 2011, and later a hundred-million-baht rework of the lobby and restaurants.
The address is the busiest retail corner in Thailand. CentralWorld is across the road, Gaysorn Village and Gaysorn Amarin are on the adjacent corners, the Platinum Fashion Mall and the Pratunam wholesale district are a short walk north, and the Erawan Shrine is a few minutes south. BTS Chit Lom is about 350 metres from the door, and the elevated skywalk from there reaches Central Chidlom, Central Embassy and Siam without touching a pavement.
What that means for a visitor is a hotel priced below the towers around it in the single best-connected spot in central Bangkok. It draws shoppers heading for Pratunam and Platinum, and business travellers who want Ratchaprasong without Ratchaprasong rates. There are indoor and outdoor pools, a health club and a spa on the podium floors.
