U Sathorn Bangkok is 86 rooms in three low, three-storey wings arranged around a courtyard, on Soi Ngam Duphli off Rama IV. The style is French colonial — shuttered windows, verandas, a sweeping entrance — set in gardens with a pool at the centre, and the effect in the middle of Bangkok is genuinely disorienting: the traffic is a few hundred metres away and completely inaudible.
The room categories follow the courtyard. Superior Garden rooms sit on the ground floor with their own outdoor terrace opening onto the lawn; Deluxe Garden View rooms on the upper floors look down into the greenery; the Classic Superiors wrap the entrance. Bicycles are free to borrow, which tells you what kind of neighbourhood this is.
Soi Ngam Duphli is one of the older backpacker streets in Bangkok, long since gentrified into a quiet residential lane of small hotels, guesthouses and restaurants. MRT Lumphini is a short walk, putting Silom two stops away and Sukhumvit a short ride, and Lumphini Park itself is a few minutes north — 140 rai of lake and lawn.
Guests here are typically staying several days and choosing quiet over convenience, which they get without giving up much of either.
