Dusit Thani Bangkok is the same hotel twice. The original opened in 1970 as the first property of Dusit International and was the tallest building in Thailand: a 22-storey triangular tower topped with a golden spire, designed by the Japanese architect Yozo Shibata and drawn from the form of Wat Arun. For half a century it was the landmark at the Silom end of Rama IV, facing Lumphini Park.
It closed on 5 January 2019 and was demolished over the following year. What stands there now opened on 27 September 2024 — 39 storeys and 257 rooms, down from the old hotel's 517, with interiors by André Fu, built as part of the Dusit Central Park development that replaced the whole block. The golden spire was carried over.
The address is one of the best in the city and always has been. Lumphini Park is directly across Rama IV: 140 rai of lake and lawn, busy from before dawn. Silom begins a few minutes west, MRT Si Lom and BTS Sala Daeng are at the corner, and Sathon's banks and embassies are just south. Every room in the new tower is angled toward the park.
