Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom is the largest hotel on Silom Road, with close to 700 rooms across two towers — the Plaza and the Crown. It has not always carried this name: it traded as the Crowne Plaza until July 2003, when the Harilela Group, who own it, put around ten million dollars into a refurbishment and repositioned it under the Holiday Inn flag. The reasoning was straightforward: Crowne Plaza is built for conventions, and this address serves a mixed leisure and business market instead.
The two-tower layout is why the hotel can hold a health club, an outdoor pool and a tennis court on a Silom plot — space that newer buildings on this road simply do not have.
Silom itself is the reason to stay. The road runs from Rama IV down to the river through the banking district, with street food along its length, Patpong's night market partway down, and BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Si Lom at the eastern end. Lumphini Park is across Rama IV, the Chao Phraya and BTS Saphan Taksin about ten minutes west, and Siam three BTS stops north.
Guests here are a broad mix — families, tour groups, business travellers — most staying several nights.
