Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor opened in January 2020 at 101 Soi Sukhumvit 55, the first Staybridge Suites anywhere in Asia Pacific. The 29-storey building was developed jointly by Thailand's Origin Property and Japan's Nomura Real Estate, and it was designed from the start for stays measured in months rather than nights.
Every suite has a real kitchen — full-size fridge with an ice maker, cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and proper storage — and the layouts run from studios to one- and two-bedroom family suites. Breakfast is included, and the building keeps a rooftop pool, a fitness centre, a sauna and a Japanese onsen, which is a nod to the Japanese community that fills this soi.
Thong Lo is the reason. Soi Sukhumvit 55 runs two kilometres north from the main road and is where Bangkok's Japanese residents concentrate, so the lane is lined with izakaya, ramen counters, bakeries and supermarkets that exist for people who live here. BTS Thong Lo is about 500 metres away, putting Phrom Phong and the Em District one stop west, Asok and Terminal 21 three stops, and Ekkamai one stop east.
The suites include a washer and dryer, which handles a shirt or two. A family's week of clothes, bedding and towels is a different job, and doing it in a studio-sized machine costs an evening.
