AETAS Lumpini stands at 1030/4 Rama IV Road with 203 rooms, and its selling point is visible from the window: Lumphini Park spreads out across the road, 140 rai of lake, lawn and old banyan trees, and the rooms are built with large windows to make use of it. In central Bangkok an unbroken green view is close to unobtainable, and this is one of the few mid-priced hotels that has one.
The rooms run from Standard to Premier suites, furnished plainly and well with high-count cotton bedding. The Hourglass restaurant does Thai fusion, the GMT Lounge sits high enough for a view, and there is a pool with a bar beside it.
MRT Lumphini is a very short walk — close enough that it is genuinely part of the daily routine — which puts Silom two stops west, Sukhumvit a short ride east, and the Blue Line's loop through Chinatown and the old town within reach. Sathon's banks and embassies are a few minutes south, and the Suan Phlu lanes behind the hotel hold the local markets and food stalls.
The park is the thing guests actually use: it opens before dawn for runners and tai chi, and the water monitors that live in it surprise every first-time visitor.
