Capella Bangkok opened in 2020 on the Chao Phraya at the Charoen Krung 62 end of the riverfront, and it is small by the standards of the river: 101 rooms, suites and villas, every one of them facing the water without interruption.
The villas are the reason people book it. The Riverside and Presidential villas have their own gardens and private plunge pools at the water's edge, which is close to unobtainable in central Bangkok. Auriga Wellness runs the spa across seven treatment suites, two of them for couples, mixing traditional Thai work — Tok Sen, the northern hammer massage, among it — with contemporary practice.
The location has become one of the more interesting parts of the city. Charoen Krung is the oldest paved road in Bangkok, and the stretch around Soi 30 and Talat Noi has filled with galleries, coffee roasters and converted shophouses over the last decade, alongside the old trading houses and the Portuguese and French embassies. River City and its antique dealers are a short walk north; the Chao Phraya express boats and the hotel's own shuttle handle the rest.
